2-night Run in August set for 4th Annual ‘SpawMaxwell Night of Comedy.’ Popular Event Supports Medical Mission in Guatemala.

Houston, July 9, 2009 – Houston general contractor SpawMaxwell, named Contractor of the Year in Texas and ranked No. 1 for interior construction by Texas Construction, has a funny bone to match. The company’s popular Night of Comedy fundraiser, which raised more than $60,000 in 2008 for Faith in Practice, a medical mission that serves the poor of Guatemala, has 2 nights booked in August – Tuesday, August 4th and Wednesday, August 5th – for its 4th Annual comedy showcase.  All proceeds from the show benefit Faith in Practice.

The popular SpawMaxwell Night of Comedy show, which features in-house talent (project managers, coordinators, vice presidents, and superintendents) comes back to Houston after selling out their last 6 consecutive shows in Houston, Austin, and Dallas. They have raised more than $200,000 for charities in all three cities since 2006.

“SpawMaxwell has worked behind the scenes providing advice, counsel, and resources that help us create the structures that allow us to do what we do,” said Linda McCarty, Executive Director of Faith in Practice. Charity Navigator, which monitors the effectiveness of charities around the country, gave Faith in Practice its highest rating of 4-stars for “exceeding industry standards.”

In June, a construction team from SpawMaxwell, including comedy show regulars Patrick Stuart Stanley, Rick Brown, and Mark Johnson, traveled to Guatemala to complete the renovation work at the Hilario Galindo Hospital that serves the northern coastal plains of Guatemala. “SpawMaxwell is part of building another kind of community,” McCarty said. “Because of what SpawMaxwell is doing through the Night of Comedy, and by its hands-on work for us on location in Guatemala, the world is just a little bit different than it used to be. It’s a different kind of healing.”

The SpawMaxwell comedy show puts a different twist on traditional fundraisers by giving employees and area businesses a unique and fun way to get involved in charitable giving. In 2008, the SpawMaxwell Night of Comedy attracted more than 50 Houston area businesses as event sponsors.
