Our
approach to sustainability is unique to each project,
and is informed by the guidelines established by
the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The
following are some of the recommendations for general
contractors that can have a positive impact on sustainability
during construction:
- Reduce pollution from construction by controlling
soil erosion, waterway sedimentation and airborne
dust generation
- Limit building site disturbance by protecting
existing natural areas and restoring damaged
ones
- Work with the Commissioning Agent to ensure
the building’s energy related systems are
installed properly
- Divert non-hazardous construction debris from
landfills and incinerators, and recycle or salvage
those materials
- Emphasize materials reuse to reduce demand
for virgin materials and to reduce waste
- Utilize materials with high recycled content
- Buy indigenous materials (when possible) from
local and regional manufacturers to minimize
impact of transporting materials over long distances
- Adopt an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Management
Plant to ensure the well-being of construction
workers and building occupants
